The Imbewu Trust is calling for applications for their third SCriBE Scriptwriting Competition with a number of prizes available this year.
Closing date is July 31 and the top five scripts will be selected for a week-long staged reading in October with the opportunity for discussion and feedback from the public and members of the theatre industry.
The winning script will be produced by a professional creative team for a run at a Cape Town theatre next year. A second winner will have the chance to further workshop the play, with a third award of the Scribblers Dream, a financial prize to enable a writer to work alongside a mentor to develop the script.
The Imbewu Trust, a non-profit organisation, was founded by Same de Romijn and Paul Griffiths to create an accessible community of varied voices that can flourish through collaboration, resourcefulness and innovation. Imbewu is looking for new works of outstanding quality, original content and which represent the range of the South African theatre landscape.

Detours: experimental avenues in movement composition is hosted by the Wits School of Arts/Dramatic Arts with directors Joni Barnard and Jane Crewe.
Detours provides a much-needed space for senior students and young professionals to perform their work. It aims to draw participants who are interested in creating work that challenges conventional and traditional understandings of movement, choreography, physical theatre and performance space. It will run May 9 to 17.
Proposals for live performance (10 to 15 minutes) and screen (no more than five minutes) should clearly articulate why the work is experimental in nature and the proposed work should not have been previously performed on a major platform.
Detours will be facilitating a workshop platform which provides participants the opportunity to host or attend various workshops and classes running over weekends. Participants interested in facilitating a workshop should make clear mention of this in their applications.
Live performance: a copy of your CV and references; a written motivation which includes title of work, short synopsis of work, cast size; visual examples of your work: footage and/or photographs or links to sites where work can be viewed (YouTube, Dropbox). Reviews of written material on your previous work (if possible).
