Call for Proposals:

The Goethe-Institut is calling for project ideas for exhibitions, workshops, events and performances. The way project selection takes place is central in understanding the philosophy of GoetheonMain. The programme is decided by an independent committee of arts professionals, who meet after the yearly public call for proposals. The focus above all else is on artistic quality, whilst maintaining a sensitivity for the context and local relevance, and favouring an experimental approach. It also implies a certain conceptual frame – that of the city, or a sense of “urbanity”: a focus on the human relation as much as built environment. This year’s application deadline is Thursday, August 15 for the realisation period January to December next year. For more info and to download the application form, visit www.goethe.de/goetheonmain.

Competitions:

iStart2 Challenge. Open to all South Africans aged 16 – 35. Artists are invited to explore one of the seven sustainability concepts, to express their ideas about them and to explore original ways of promoting awareness about them. The key sustainability concepts are: water, waste, energy, health and safety, people with disabilities, the elderly and indigenous people. Entries in seven categories of art: music, creative writing, dance, fine arts, applied arts and design, acting and multimedia will be accepted. Entries close on July 31, entry forms available at www.istart2.com.
