The Imbewu Trust is calling for applications for their third SCriBE Scriptwriting Competition with a number of prizes available. Closing date is July 31 and the top five scripts will be selected for a week-long staged reading in October with the chance for discussion and feedback from the public and members of the theatre industry. The winning script will be produced by a professional creative team for a run at a Cape Town theatre next year. A second winner will get to further workshop the play, with a third award of the Scribblers Dream, a financial prize to enable a writer to work alongside a mentor to develop the script. Imbewu is looking for new works of outstanding quality, original content and which represent the range of the South African theatre landscape. The scripts should be in English, no longer than 40 pages or 80 minutes, with no more than five cast members. For details visit www.imbewuarts.com.

Applications for Bursary:

The Arts and Culture Trust (ACT) in partnership with the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (Dalro) and Nedbank Arts Affinity offers three performing arts scholarships for local aspirant performers. The programme is aimed at Grade 12 pupils and individuals younger than 25 who are neither registered for an undergraduate degree nor considered professional performing artists. The programme is a competition in which participants are assessed on their acting, dancing and singing potential and culminates in a final showcase before an independent panel.
