Just a few months after the departure of Rapulana Seiphemo, who was known to viewers of SABC1's Generations as the charming Tau Mogale, the powers behind the show have introduced another media honcho in the form of Kenneth Mashaba.

The juicy part is played by Seputla Sebogodi, who shot to stardom way back as Nkweseng on the drama series Bophelo Ke Semphekgo .

While some people were thinking that the Generations ship was about to sink, the show's creator, Mfundi Vundla, and his team of scriptwriters have turned the tables by introducing Sebogodi's character.

Kenneth is a wealthy man, who grew up with friend Ngamla (Menzi Ngubane), the head of Afri Media in Generations. To his benefit, Kenneth learnt much about the advertising industry from his pal.

However, when you hatch the egg of a snake, once it has grown it will definitely bite you. And Kenneth certainly goes on to bite the hand that fed him.

I spoke to Sebogodi about his character, which is a far cry from the stupid Nkweseng and the illiterate Kuvuki king in Leon Schuster's comedy, Mr Bones.

He said: "An actor will always be an actor. If the producers want me to play a stupid dude I will impress them. If they want me to be a guluva (thug) that will happen for sure.".

Sebogodi, who grew up in Attridgeville, Tshwane, said his passion for acting started when he was a young boy and his love of the craft saw him relocate to Johannesburg, where he believed his dreams would be realised.

How did you get your big break?

"I was spotted by one of the production members on Now is the Time, the late Gibson Kente's play, and you know how it goes - the rest is history."

So, just who is Kenneth?

"Kenneth is one of those brilliant guys who always uses their brains to do the action, and benefit from those who are sleeping, like Ngamla."

Sebogodi said he enjoys playing Kenneth and believes that his character is sending a message to the viewers about the fickle nature of the advertising industry.

Before moving into television Sebogodi also featured in stage productions such as Not To Die Today, Macbeth, Gathering of the Beasts and The Theatre of Africa.

He's also had roles in films such as Max and Mona, The Long Run, and Hijack Stories.

When asked about his future plans he had this to say: "At this stage I am focusing on Kenneth, nothing else is planned so far."
