Young female artists to watch in the music scene

The versatile space of music is a space that allows for the creative and innovative artists to is a collective of fresh voices that are filling our audio streams both internationally and locally.

Doja Cat

The Los Angeles based singer is half-South African, and her birth name is Amala Zandile Dlamini.

The singer has released five EPs over the space of seven years, with her latest work being her new album titled 'Amala', that is currently available on streaming sites.

Manthe Ribane

Manthe Ribane is the fresh breath of music that has been injected into South Africa's music scene. 

The singer performs a afro-futuristic genre of music, which may not appeal to everyone, but is definitely putting her and group Dear Ribane on the music radars across the country and even internationally.  

Ribane has also performed with electro DJ OKZharp (pronounced 'Ok-sharp'), and currently performs in a group called Dear Ribane. She is known for her performances at music events, her artful performances, and her extravagant statement-making outfits.

Chloe x Halle

Sisters Chloe and Halle made their name from the covers they would perform and upload to Youtube. the sister's cover of Pretty Hurts  by Beyonce got noticed by the R&B singer, who then signed the duo as her first artsists to her imprint label Parkwood Entertainment.

They appeared in the visual film Lemonade. The sisters debut album 'The Kids Are Alright' was released last month, and wrote the leading single 'Warrior' from the fantasy film Disney's A Wrinkle In Time.

The sisters also star in the new comedy show 'Grown-ish' with Black-ish actress Yara Shahidi and actor Trevor Jackson.

Kaien Cruz

A vocalist from Durban, Kaien Cruz was signed to Wolfpack company, after being discovered by rapper and producer Aewon Wolf.

Cruz was discovered when she was fifteen years old, but was only signed to Wolfpack when she completed her matric year. She features on the song 'Love Me In The Dark' by Sketchy Bongo.

Her latest EP, Room 308, is available on streaming sites.

ChianoSky

Although not a fresh face to SA's music scene, ChianoSky was quite for a few years, until the release of her latest ep 'Hurricane', which features her single 'Worst That Could Happen'. 

She featured on rapper Kid X's track, 'Aunty', which released late in 2017. The pop singer was also featured on American country singer Ben Haenow's track in 2016.

ChianoSky released her latest single, Diamonds and Gold, featuring RapLyf chief Kwesta early in 2018.
