Durban - TODAY is International Read A Book Day, so take some time out and read a chapter to your little one or simply take some time out for yourself and curl up with a good read. 

International Read A Book Day was started in the early 2000s and is believed to be the idea of an unknown librarian who wanted to encourage young people to read.

While The Quran and The Holy Bible - both religious - both rank as two of the most read books of all time, ten of the world’s most popular books, in no particular order, include :

- Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes

- Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung, Mao Zedong

- Harry Potter series, JK Rowling

- A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens

- The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien
