Durban - Some fancy a glass of bubbles, some like a drink that’s a little stronger, but when girls just want to get together and chat, then a glass of wine is the perfect choice.

For digital guru and entrepreneur Lindo Buthelezi, aka Dogg DBN, this concept has led to the creation of “Wine Wednesdays” that’s taking the Durban social scene by storm.

“On Wednesdays my friends and I, both guys and girls, used to get together and just relax. We’d each bring a bottle of wine and it didn’t have to be an expensive bottle either,” said Buthelezi.

He decided to market the idea of having wine on Wednesdays, where people could gather and enjoy a night out.

“I see many people stuck on this idea that to go out, you needed to spend lots of money. There’s lots of pressure to be drinking the most expensive drink on offer, and many people can’t afford that. However, we are saying there is nothing wrong in having a bottle of wine that doesn’t cost a lot and still having a good time with your friends. We want to change this idea that you have to spend large sums of money to have a good time, or get caught up in situations where women feel they need to have a guy around to buy them a drink,” said Buthelezi.

Wine Wednesdays is held at the Warehouse in Hunter Street, Durban.

Buthelezi has bigger plans for Wine Wednesdays and has had requests to expand to Johannesburg and other major cities in the country.

“I also plan to have book clubs, comedy nights and special guest speakers on career guidance, to speak to the people who come to Wine Wednesdays,” he said.
