Durban is about to be invaded, but it’s bound to be a good laugh - with a pack of out-of-town comics descending on the city for Butlers Comedy Night on Saturday, June 2.

Leading the way on to the stage will be veteran comedian John

Vlismas of Johannesburg.

Having just returned to South Africa from a stint Down Under,

Vlismas has been described as “intelligent, witty and quite unashamedly hilarious”, and is always a favourite on the local comedy scene.

Coming up from Cape Town will be Angel Campey and Gino Fernandez.

Campey is an award-winning comedy writer who has made appearances on all the major festival stages, was part of numerous big arena comedy line-ups, and has also appeared on Comedy Central Africa with Kings and Queens of Comedy. She was nominated in 2015 for an Mbokodo award in comedy by the Department of Arts and Culture.

Campey said she was not sure how she felt about that - it implies the government likes what she's doing - but with the name Angel “at least she’s not a stripper”.

Fernandez is also well-known on the Cape Town comedy circuit and is described as “one of the most bankable comedians” with “a sharp wit and well-constructed material”.

From over our northern border is Simba, the comic king from Zimbabwe.

Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of stand-up comedy in Zimbabwe, he has been in the industry for more than a decade and has performed with Africa’s top acts.

He has written and performed one-man shows and was awarded the National Arts Merit for “Most Outstanding Comedian” in 2014.

The show starts at 8.30pm, with dinner from 6.30pm at Butlers Restaurant, Old Main Road, Hillcrest. Tickets are R100 and available from Quicket. The dinner special is R85 for any pizza plus a Savanna.
