Durban - If the title of their latest single is anything to go by, Durban lads Dom Hurd and Jude Kenrick are having the best of days.

The duo, who make up Easy Freak, have become recognisable faces and voices as their single, Good Times, has been receiving extensive television and radio play.

“It’s been an incredible experience so far, we just wanted to have fun with the track, and we are glad that people are enjoying it too,” said Kenrick.

Kenrick, 23, of Verulam, and Hurd, 28, from Berea, make up the group, and while their

journey started off in their home town of Durban in 2015, they recently moved up to Gauteng to grow their music careers.

“We are both originally from Durban and both love music. We have a similar start in music as our introduction to it came in church. But we were also both music students at UKZN, though we didn’t study together.

“I play the guitar and Jude plays the drums. We’ve learnt a lot over the years, and I think the best way to describe our music is eclectic. We draw inspiration from many others, singers and groups across different genres,” said Hurd.

The track, Good Times, has been described as laid-back and chilled, with a distinctly Durban feel.

“We want people to have fun with the song. For us, music is not all about a flashy lifestyle. That’s what we show with Good Times. It’s retro, laid back and fun, with no expectations,” said Kenrick

They have been playing at some of South Africa’s biggest music festivals such as Oppikoppi, Zakifo, Durban Picnic Day, Mieliepop, Bacardi Holiday Club and Music at the Lake and shared the stage with artists such as Damien Marley, Riky Rick, Shekhinah, Cassper Nyovest, Kwesta, Micasa, and Sho Madjozi.

The duo will soon start a national tour, which kicks off in Durban at the end of July.

“We are really excited to be touring, coming to our home town, then Cape Town in August, and next year will be Europe,” said Kenrick.
