If you don’t mind the intrusive construction at Suncoast, you might want to pop into the Vigour & Verve restaurant, or Vigour Café - one restaurant, with two names.

The shisanyama special caught our eye. My partner was craving something meaty and wholesome.

Ordinarily this would mean a trip to the township to spots like Eyadini or Max’s in uMlazi, or Mashamplagne’s in Chesterville, but we opted for something more beachy - Suncoast’s V&V.

We dived straight into the mains. I had the shisanyama special, which came with my rump steak (which I had prepared rare), a quarter leg of chicken and chunky wors, dressed in barbecue sauce and served with chips.

My partner opted for mutton ribs and chicken wings served with fries.

The bright lights from the casino and the music pumping from the corridors make for a cool ambiance and V&V has a loungy chic feel about it.

We went meat-heavy, but their menu is diverse with a selection of vegetarian meals, Italian pastas, pizzas, curries and bunny chows on offer.

I sank my teeth into my 200g steak and it oozed in my mouth at first bite. I appreciated the waitress sending the right message to the kitchen staff. The waitress was also friendly and had great timing.

The chicken wings on my partner’s plate were ordinary at best; not even the delicious sauce could have me fooled.

The leg of chicken was divine in contrast. The mutton ribs were impressive, but could have been more tender.

The food pricing was decent, so this is one venue where you could indulge and leave a tiny hole in the wallet That’s of course if you skip starters and dessert.
