Durban - Armed robbers stabbed a Phoenix businessman and robbed him of cash but two of the robbers were arrested when armed response officers swooped on them as they fled the scene on Tuesday night.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a gang of four armed robbers had entered a business premises in Parthenon Street and held up the businessman at knife point at around 10.30pm.

“One of the suspects stabbed the businessman in the right shoulder and forced him to open the safe. The suspects grabbed around R60 000 in cash and fled the scene on foot,” Mathios said.

Mathios said a Blue Security armed response officer responded to a panic alarm activation at the property as the four suspects were fleeing the premises. “The officer called for backup and managed to arrest two of the suspects with the help of a Thompson’s Security and National Security officers. The other two suspects managed to evade arrest,” Mathios said.

Mathios said cash was recovered from one of the suspects and the second suspect was also positively identified when he was taken back to the business premises.

“The suspects were handed over to Phoenix SAPS at the scene of the crime. The victim was taken to hospital in a private vehicle for medical attention,” Mathios said.

In a separate incident on Tuesday night Mathios said armed response officers also recovered stolen goods when they responded to a tip off from a resident in Kloof that two suspects had been seen walking along Kloof Falls Road carrying a television.

“The officer spotted the suspects hiding behind an electrical power box. He attempted to confront the suspects but they jumped into a nearby property and fled the scene,” Mathios said.

The officer recovered a television, an iPad, an X Box console, games and several tools which were handed over to the Pinetown police.
