It’s a weekend for winter woolies inland and rain gear on the coast. However, for snow, one will have to cross the border into Lesotho, according to Wiseman Dlamini, a weather forecaster for the SA Weather Service.
He said that tomorrow the mercury is expected to drop to -4°C in Underberg but could go up to 15 later in the day. Today the minimum is expected to be only one degree higher.
On the coast, there will be a 60% chance of showers today and tomorrow. Maximum temperatures will be in the early 20s. Inland, a 30% chance of rain is expected.
“On Monday, the rain will be over,” Dlamini said.
On the ground, Simone Suchet at Sani Lodge Backpackers, at the bottom on Sani Pass described yesterday as “a normal, ordinary day at the end of autumn”, and said no snow was expected over the weekend.
Halfway to the Drakensberg, Payal Rohan of the Piggly Wiggly tourist centre, near Howick, said that in spite of the drizzle it was “a beautiful day in the Midlands” and many people were expected over the weekend ahead of children returning to school.
On the coast, Kuben Naidoo of Beach Bums, at Westbrook, said they were prepared for rain today and better weather tomorrow.
“We go on, whatever the weather,” he said.
