DURBAN -- The Democratic Alliance plans to visit the school attended by teenager Matthew Joash David, who was found hanging after he was allegedly bullied and reportedly called gay and a pervert by his school principal.

Councillor Marthinus Meyer said the party’s delegation would also visit his family in an effort to understand more about the incident as well as offer help and awareness on issues related to same-sex attraction.

Seventeen-year-old Matthew was a pupil at the Chatsworth Secondary School. He killed himself on Tuesday last week, according to reports.

“We are planning to meet with the family and the school,” said Meyer.

“We need to do more education out there.”

The visit would most likely take place next week or later, Meyer added.

“We need to offer everyone a bit of time first.”

Meyer also said the DA needed to get more information on the incident and the circumstances around it before coming to any kind of judgment.
