DURBAN - IF you found yet more ugly socks under the Christmas tree this year, don't throw them out or tuck them into the dark recesses of your cupboard. Please donate them to us, say Durban charities.

Proceeds generated in the charity shops of non-profit
organisations are used to fund their work, and your unwanted goods don't have to be thrown away, recycled into gifts for others, or lie unused.

“Whether it's old or new, the items are welcome in our charity shop. The proceeds we generate from the sales go towards the upkeep of the animals,” said Jay Metedad, operations manager at the Durban and Coast SPCA.

Barbara Laubscher, who manages the Shared Charity shops in Pinetown and Sarnia, urged people to reconsider the idea of giving gifts, and if they received unwanted gifts, these could be donated.

“We appreciate any donations, the money goes to the charities for their work. However, I’d like people to reconsider the idea of gifting. This year, instead of gifts, our family has decided to each rather choose an item off the Bobbi Bear wish list and purchase that and give it to the organisation,” she said.
