A green turtle that was rescued on Anstey’s Beach on the Bluff on Thursday evening died soon after being taken to uShaka Marine World.

Durban - A green turtle that was rescued on Anstey’s Beach on the Bluff on Thursday evening died soon after being taken to uShaka Marine World.

Late on Thursday, eThekwini Search & Rescue responded to a call from members of the public who had found the turtle on the beach and stood guard over it until the authorities arrived.

Search and rescue members were met by a senior marine ecologist from KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife and it was decided to take the turtle to uShaka Marine World for treatment.

The turtle was placed in a rescue basket and taken to a vet at uShaka Marine World and it was confirmed yesterday that the turtle had died soon after arriving at the facility.

It was diagnosed by the vet as having a severe infection.
