Pietermaritzburg - Mountain Rise detectives are on a man hunt for a traditional healer who allegedly swindled a woman out of an undisclosed amount of money in a cash growing scam.

Captain Nqobile Gwala said the woman had just terminated her employment.

"She withdrew her termination package and on June 27 she went to Northdale in Pietermaritzburg to meet with her boyfriend and his brother who was a traditional healer.

"On arrival at the traditional healer’s residence, she was instructed to place the money in a prayer room so that her ancestors could double it," Gwala said.

"The victim did as requested and the brothers called upon the ancestors to do the necessary."

Gwala said the victim was requested to go and buy celebratory drinks at a nearby store.

"On her return when she realised the traditional healer had disappeared with all her money. Her boyfriend initially assisted in the search, but he too later disappeared. She realised she had been scammed and contacted the police.”

Police are pleading with members of the community to assist with locating the man in the picture, as they believe he would be of great assistance in investigating the case of theft under false pretence.
