Durban - Tongaat police are investigating the death of a man who died while cutting a tree.
Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said the incident involving a 36-year-old man happened near Shamilar Gardens in Desinagar. “An inquest docket was opened,” he said.
Local security company Reaction Unit South Africa, which attended to the incident, said its members found the man lying face down on the ground. He had sustained a gaping wound to his head.
“Medics from a private ambulance service assessed the individual and found that he showed no signs of life,” said the unit's Prem Balram.
Balram said that the man had been trimming a tree at a block of flats on Park Avenue, Desinagar. He said that in the process of trimming a branch of a large tree, the branch broke and the man fell several metres to his death.
Zwane said that police reported that he had been cutting trees near Sharlimar Gardens and that a tree fell on top of him.
