School pupils are invited to submit poems as part of the of the 22nd Poetry Africa Schools Competition which takes place from 15 to 20 October 2018.

Durban - High school pupils in KwaZulu-Natal have been invited to submit poetry material for the 22nd Poetry Africa Schools Competition.

The event is backed by the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Centre for Creative Arts, the eThekwini Municipality. The festival will take place from October 15 to 20.

Organisers said the festival focused on nurturing a culture of reading and writing poetry, especially among the youth of KwaZulu-Natal. Poems to be submitted can be written in either English or Zulu on any topic, giving budding poets maximum license to be creative.

Poems must be submitted either by hand at the Centre for Creative Arts, Howard College Campus, Mazisi Kunene Avenue or via email to [email protected] or by fax to 031 260 3074. The deadline September 19.

Winners will be given the opportunity to read their poems on the main stage of the Poetry Africa festival on October 16. Prizes will be awarded by Adams Booksellers and the Centre for Creative Arts.
