Durban - A stolen vehicle and stripped motor bikes were among a number of items recovered at the Golela border post into Swaziland by Pongola SAPS members, Golela Port of Entry, Tracker Unit and other units early yesterday morning.
Police spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele confirmed today that the seizures took place when trucks and a bakkie were searched as they were waiting for the gate to be opened at the border.
“Upon searching the trucks, the members discovered a stolen vehicle, several stripped motor bikes, bicycles, computers, solar panels, appliances and other items. The motor bikes were stolen in the Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas. The suspects were transporting the stolen goods to Malawi. A total of nine suspects aged between 23 and 49 were placed under arrest,” said Mbele.
The suspects are appearing today in the Pongola Magistrate's Court on charges of possession of stolen property.
