Two fires... two Durban businesses gutted

Durban - Two Durban businesses were gutted by fires on Tuesday.

In the most recent incident a fire gutted a factory in Umbilo.

Rescue Care spokesman Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived at the factory in Khumzimpi Shezi (Williams) Road just after 8pm to find the factory well alight. The Durban Fire Department quickly contained and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported as the factory was closed at the time.

Earlier on Tuesday a fire destroyed a motor business in Stalwart Simelane (Stanger) Street in central Durban at about 1am.

Jamieson said paramedics arrived to find fire department fighting the fire. The blaze was contained quickly and no injuries were reported. The premises was severely damaged as were a number of vehicles inside the premises. SAPS Search and Rescue were also in attendance.

Events leading up to both fires are unknown, however SAPS and Durban Fire Department are investigating.
