DURBAN - The Le Clos brothers are home for Christmas, both having been in Cape Town. Jordan has been there on a gap year helping Chad, his swimming champion brother, who has been in Durban this month, swimming in the Commonwealth Games Swimming Trials.

They are extending their stay for one of their usual big-family, lots-of-food Mauritian Christmases.

Their father, Bert, pointed out: “This year it will be more Portuguese. I’m cooking chicken peri-peri because my grandchildren are half-Portuguese.”

Chad said Christmas had always been a good time for him.

“It’s at the end of the season so you can eat what you like. Christmas is generally a treat day.”

Christmas is scheduled to be full of family and food at the Le Clos home in Pinetown.

Swimming hero Chad le Clos was away in America last year, taking a holiday after competing in Canada.

However, he still trains once a day.

Chad spent last Christmas away from home, at Disney World in the US with friends. He stayed on in North America after taking part in the World Championships in Canada.

“It was a planned holiday with the boys,” he said, referring to pals from his childhood.

But, he stressed, he was happy to be at his parents’ home in Pinetown this year to catch up on family time.
