No one wants to spend more than they should on holiday, but some travellers often break the bank on adventures without searching for deals and travel saving methods.

Here are some signs you are spending way too much on your holiday:

1. You purchase the first holiday you see

: Booking a holiday is an exciting moment, but sometimes that excitement can lead to poor decisions. Holidays may look good on paper but far less appealing when one gets to the destination.

 What to do:

Shop around. Look out for better deals. Often you may find that the cheaper option has better travel benefits than the one that costs a fortune. Besides, who can resist a few extra bucks to spend on souvenirs?

2. Your holiday is on credit/ you have taken a loan:

With the pressure of society and social media, many travellers tend to spend money they do not have to impress others. ‘Doing it for the Gram’, they book exotic holidays on their credit card or take loans to pay off their holiday.

 What to do:

Save enough before you book a holiday. The last thing someone wants is to pay off debt after coming back from an epic holiday. Skip a few holidays until you ready to fund your holiday.

3. There is no budget:

Having no budget on a holiday is like swimming with the sharks. It may seem fun at first, but it's risky. It is easy to overspend when there is not a set amount allocated to a trip. Whether its food, clothes shopping or tours, knowing how much you want to spend can be a big blessing in the long haul.

What to do:

Create a budget. It is as simple as that. Take into account your flights, accommodation, food and tours. There are also budget-friendly options available for travellers.

4. You take tours you cannot afford:

Hot air balloon rides, horseriding or heliflips may seem exciting if you able to fork out the cost of it. However, this can be a dilemma if you cash-strapped and cannot possibly splurge on an activity that your friends intend on doing.

What to do:

Make a few suggestions about alternate ideas that your friends may like, or perhaps tell your friends you cannot afford it.

5. You travel during high season:

Peak season travel is popular. The demand for travel prompts airlines, hotels and some restaurants to increase their prices. Good for them, bad for your pocket.

What to do:

Travel when no one is. Off-peak travel is cheaper as airlines, hotels and tourism bodies are trying to get more people to a destination. It is also a better time to explore a place when there are fewer tourists.
