Champagne and strawberries for date night are so last year, this month of love why not treat your date to a Classic Old Fashioned cocktail and spiced pecans.

Both elements are quick, simple and easy to make. In the recipe below we used super-premium bourbon,  Woodford Reserve, which is particularly suited to the Classic Old Fashioned cocktail.

The Classic Old Fashioned:

- 50 ml Woodford Reserve bourbon

- 1tsp Brown Sugar

- 2 Dashes Bitters

- Orange zest garnish

Add sugar, bitters, 25ml Woodford Reserve into a mixing glass and half fill with ice. Stir well and add 25 ml Woodford Reserve and fill with ice. Stir well and strain into a tumbler glass filled with ice. Garnish with fresh orange zest.

Spiced Pecans by Myrna Robins

- 2 TBS brown sugar

- 1 TBS butter

- 1 TBS maple syrup

- half cup pecan nuts

- quarter tsp chilli powder

Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper. Stir the sugar, butter and maple syrup together in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. Add the pecans and stir until well coated. Sprinkle with chilli powder and continue stirring for a few minutes. Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and allow to cool.
