London - Taking diet pills could undermine your efforts to lose weight.

Researchers in Taiwan recruited 74 adults aged 18 to 49 who wanted to shed the pounds.

They told half the group that they were being given a supplement that aided weight loss, while the rest of the group were told that they would have a placebo.

In fact, all the group received a placebo. The participants were then offered high-calorie treats such as nougat.

Writing in the journal Appetite, the researchers concluded that being given diet supplements may stop people taking responsibility for what they eat. - Daily Mail
