Most men would cower at the sight of a woman giving birth, but not Costas Mina.

The 44-year-old chef sprang into action when his partner went into labour in the bath and gave birth just 10 minutes after her first contractions.

He dialed the emergency services to take him through the labour, but then noticed that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck.

Mina, from North London, told the Mirror newspaper: “The guy on the phone was telling me to get string to cut the cord. I flung open the wardrobe and saw my chef’s uniform.

“I grabbed the apron, wrapped the strings around and that’s how I delivered our baby. There’s no other feeling like it. I felt empowered.”

Despite the quick birth, Mina said the arrival was “one of the longest and most surreal moments” of his life.

Harry, who weighed 3.3kg, is younger brother to 19-month-old daughter Amber, and named after England star Harry Kane.
