From Easter egg hunts to picnics in the Winelands, we've got you covered with plenty of choices

National Zoological Gardens

The National Zoological Gardens in Pretoria is a 85-hectare zoo. They’ve got a bumper Easter weekend programme set up - children can take part in an Easter egg treasure hunt, and there will be a full day of races. While the kids are out having fun, parents can relax at one of the shaded picnic spots and take in the views.

The Rand Show

The Rand show runs from March 30 - April 8, and promises to be the perfect day out for the whole family. One of SA’s largest consumer shows held at Joburg Expo Centre Nasrec, highlights include The Interactive Food Theatre and The Science & Tech Laboratory. The show’s biggest attraction is the amusement park filled with adrenaline-fuelled thrills and rides - definitely not to be missed.

Durban Botanic Gardens

Durban’s biggest Easter Egg hunt is back with the Beacon Easter Eggsplorer taking place on March 31 and April 1. From Butterfly Garden to Alien Ally, the Beacon Easter Bunny has left a trail of giant Easter eggs throughout Africa’s oldest surviving botanic gardens.

“This is not your average hunt. We’ll provide maps, clues and plenty of obstacle challenges to make sure it’s the best in Durban,” says Botanic Gardens Trust manager Kerry Phillips.

Other activities include cupcake decorating, arts and crafts, face painting and a bunny education area.

Entrance fee: R85, children under age 1 are free

Holiday Express Easter Train Trip

The Holiday Express, operating the modern KZN Business Express, is a fun-filled experience. They have two Easter trips planned for the long weekend; including Shongweni Farmers Market (March 31) and Scottburgh Beach (April 1).

The route to Shongweni takes you through the well-known Durban township of Chatsworth and other landmarks, making it well worth the journey.

Grande Provence

Forget standing over a hot stove on Easter Sunday while trying to impress your family with a traditional meal. Instead you could opt for a relaxed picnic in the Cape Winelands.

Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate in Franschhoek is offering a fabulous variety in their specially-prepared picnic baskets. The adults are in for a treat as well - think bubbly on tap, an oyster bar and fresh produce stands. Besides the traditional Easter egg hunt, children will be entertained with lawn games like croquet, giant Jenga, face painting and a hot chocolate fountain.

V&A Waterfront

The V&A Amphitheatre has a jam-packed programme for the little ones which runs from March 31 - April 8, that’s basically their entire school holiday sorted.

From Eggsersize with Bunny Bop to face painting, the day’s activities start at 11am and finish at 5pm. The best part is that it won’t cost you a single cent!
