Mischievous SA bulldogs, Sophia and Olly, went viral after their owner posted a video of them playing dead after being caught chewing furniture.

With broken furniture pieces strewn across the floor, the video shows the dog owner’s sister asking, “Who did this?”, to which the clever pooches, having sensed they’d done something naughty, opted for a playing dead approach - lying on their backs with their legs in the air and mouths agape.

The video, posted on August 3, has since garnered over 6.5 million views and 115 000 shares on Facebook. In the caption, the dogs' owner, Nico Du Toit, who was sent the video by his sister, said the dogs were "too clever for their own good" and that it made him laugh until he cried. With all the attention it so rapidly received, he joked in a separate post that the notifications were annoying, “I've never felt more sorry for a Kardashian in my life. Make it stop. Jirre."

Although many videos of dogs playing dead have gone viral before, what makes this one stand out from the rest is what  happened next. Cottoning on to their antics, Du Toit’s sister was quick to ask, “Who wants a snack?”, almost immediately, the bulldogs shot up from their positions on the floor and padded over to retrieve their treat.

Of course, this was simply a ploy to catch them out, and right after, she asked again, “But who did this?” whilst pointing to the mess on the floor. Without hesitation, both dogs fell to the ground again, continuing with their grand scheme.

The public’s reaction has been overwhelmingly positive with many people agreeing that the pooches deserve to be nominated for an Academy Award.
