Ask any mom what's the most annoying part of being pregnant, and she'll say lower back and pelvic pain.

Unfortunately for expectant mothers, taking painkillers is not an option. But there are natural ways to treat it like exercise and natural remedies.

But first, we need to know what is the cause of the pain.

According to WebMD, pregnancy back pain typically happens where the pelvis meets your spine - at the sacroiliac joint. Good news for baby as this means he or she is growing. Not so good news for mom as this puts pressure on the rest of her body, mostly, the back.

Some of the most likely cause of the pain could be:

Weight gain

Most women gain between 11 - 15kg during a healthy pregnancy. But remember that the spine is doing most of the work by supporting the added weight. And this causes the lower back pain.

Posture change

During pregnancy your centre of gravity shifts. This also can result in back pain or strain.

Hormones

Your body makes a hormone called relaxin that allows ligaments in the pelvic area to relax and the joints to become looser in preparation for the birth process, says WebMD. This very same hormone can cause ligaments that support the spine to loosen, leading to pain.
