Yesterday maked a total of 232 nominations for this year’s #InspiringFiftySA ahead of the 9 July 2018 deadline. South Africa’s most Inspiring Fifty women in the technology and innovation sectors will be announced on 1 August 2018, with the winner’s ceremony taking place on 8 August 2018 at Workshop 17.

Bonnie Horbach, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, adopted the concept and is hosting the platform for the second time outside of Europe. “I am thrilled to hear that we continue to have so much support for this incredible initiative; South Africa has so much talent to offer, especially in the areas of STEM and I look forward to seeing how #InspiringFiftySA grows this year,” says Horbach.

Horbach believes that “these women form a strong network of inspiring role models for the future; #InspiringFiftySA allows us to create a platform to showcase the impact that they have made in STEM, showing young girls and boys that they can do the same”.

#InspiringFiftySA is an initiative in collaboration with #cocreateSA, the national campaign of the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cape Town. The Dutch based non-profit organisation aims to showcase inspiring female role models in the STEM industry in the Netherlands, France, Europe, the Nordics, United Kingdom, Canada and South Africa.

Built on the core philosophy ”If she can see it, she can be it”, Inspiring Fifty annually awards the 50 most inspiring women, with the aim of providing a platform that brings more visibility to the achievements of women.

To meet the criteria, a nominee has to be a founder of a technology company;  or hold a position in a C-Level position in a technology company; or be an influencer, academic or politician in the technology or innovation space. Inspiring Fifty encourages South Africans and the technology ecosystem to nominate their most inspiring female role models.
