To those who love the bubbles of a Méthode Cap Classique but want a fruity drink as well, this is the perfect serve.

Pongrácz has launched a Noble Nectar which is a demi-sec blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

But the fruit is not the first thing to that will get your attention, it's the eye-catching bottle in which it's served that I first fell in love with.

It's a purple-hued bottle that I thought was so striking and elegant that I left it standing on a kitchen cupboard for a few days like an ornament before I plucked up the courage to grab the bottle and even consider drinking the Noble Nectar.

The bottle eventually ended up on the table at a friend's potluck lunch and it was an instant hit.

I was driving so I resolved to drink no other alcohol, but have two sips of the Pongrácz but even if I wanted to take a taxi home I didn't get a chance to have more than a few sips because the MCC was devoured at the lunch table.

Comments from friends included "that's a really nice MCC" and "it tastes as good as it looks" which is always what you want to hear when you bring a bottle of wine or bubble to a gathering of friends.

No one is more proud of the bubbles than winemaker Elunda Basson.

She says the grapes are whole bunch pressed and only the best cuvee (free running juice) is used as the base wine.

Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes are hand-selected, sourced from vineyards with varying slope orientation ranging from 50 to 300 meters above sea-level, soils and micro-climates in and around Stellenbosch.

So where does the name come from? Noble Nectar, is a fitting rendition to the word nectar which is derived from the Greek word nectar and to the nobleman, Desiderius Pongrácz.

Pongrácz Noble Nectar Demi-Sec retails for about R149 and is available nationally.
