We have seen people Instagramming food and that has helped quite a lot of people to know about the latest food trends and where to eat out. This has undeniably helped improve marketing for many restaurants as it helped bring new customers through their doors.
In an aim to bringing all those pictures people take of their restaurant meals into one place, Itayi Chimuka has created an app that is a new marketing channel for restaurants, called Picdine.
“Picdine is a restaurant meal image sharing and discovery app that allows diners to post images and rate restaurant meals that they have had. Images can be discovered by other diners who can like and comment on the posts and also adds them to their own Try This list and keep track of restaurant meals that they may want to try next time they dine out”, said Chimuka.
He said users also get rewarded for posting on Picdine. For every approved published post, a user earns one point.
“Accumulated points can then be used to redeem vouchers available on Picdine such as meal vouchers at certain restaurants. The main aim is to allow users to share and discover restaurant meals in South Africa. Restaurants listed on the app will get great exposure through the app and also be able to get feedback and ratings about their meals from users”, said Chimuka.
How it works:
Users download the app from the Google or IOS stores and they register an account. They can then post images of their meal. They will be asked to enter the meal name, rate the meal out of 5 stars, describe the meal in a few words, select from a list which restaurant they have had the meal from and tag the meal with the key elements of the dish, for example sushi, pizza, ribeye steak.
Users can then follow other users registered on the app and also follow restaurants. Users will be notified if a user or restaurant they follow has added a new post.
Users can use the app to discover restaurant meals and to discover new restaurants based on name, location and cuisine.
Picdine is currently only available in South Africa.
