Taking place as from today until Sunday at SHAP Stadium, Mzilikazi Street, Mofolo Park, the Soweto Beer Festival has been a highly anticipated and longest running beer event in the country, since its inception in 1999.

“The legacy of the festival is well-renowned; it is an establishment event property that festival goers look forward to each and every year. The main aim of the event is to expose people to various types of beer, create sustainable jobs especially for women and the youth and also to bring a lifestyle event to the township, attracting tourists at the same time”, said Event Organiser Neo Moeng.

“Loyal sponsors, partners and the supportive people of Soweto are testament to the value of this beloved festival and have played a pivotal role in its success and approximately 30 000 people visit the event every year.

"In terms of growth the Gauteng Tourism Authority has given the event their stamp of approval by coming on board to help promote the event as an annual Gauteng tourist attraction. They endeavour to grow the number of local and international tourists attending the event."

Moeng said with a delicious selection of local and international food on offer there is sure to be something for everyone.

“This year’s event sees regular sponsors Heineken returning as well as a wide array of craft beers including; Dave’s Brewery Frontier Beer, Sharpville, Agars Brewery, Zwakala Brewery, Poison City, Riot, 5 Skippas, Soweto Gold, Devils Peak, Loxton Lager and the brand new, Bullish craft beer”, he said.

In addition to the beer fun there will be a diverse music line-up, a craft market, traditional games, gaming zone and an authentic shebeen.

The event will run from 12pm to 2am. Tickets are available from http://sowetobeer.nutickets.co.za/festival at R60 per day or a 3 day pass for R150.
