Checkers is the first South African retailer to introduce its own range of meal kits - it's called Ready to Chef
According to the company the meals have been developed by chefs and each meal kit consists of "fresh, locally- sourced ingredients and a step-by-step recipe card with a QR code for a how-to-video."
It's definitely a trendy move, as more and more South Africans make use of meal kits delivered to their door; usually by means of an app.
Meal kits are definitely a popular and smart choice, there's no food waste and you get to flex your cooking muscles with the help of top chefs who've created the dishes.

The Checkers meal kits will offer four different recipes, including a vegetarian option, which will be available in stores each week.
- Butter chicken curry with rotis
- Cauliflower cottage pie
- Asian beef and sesame seed salad
- Mushroom, pea and mint risotto
- Beef stroganoff with zucchini spaghetti
- Sweet and sour pork with jasmine rice
- Biltong nicoise salad
- Sweet potato and lentil dahl curry with buttered naan (vegetarian)
The meal kits will be available at all Checkers and Checkers Hyper across South Africa from Thursday, 23 August, and are priced between R119.99 and R179.99 per meal for two people.
