London- It is known for offering iced frappuccinos in the summer for those seeking a cool alternative to lattes and espressos.

Now Starbucks is selling a new range to warm up customers as the nights draw in – beer-flavoured coffee.

Dark barrel latte is brewed with a syrup that is designed to make the coffee taste like dark Irish stouts such as Guinness.

It is topped with whipped cream and a dark caramel sauce to complete the Guinness effect.

The dark barrel latte, part of a range of products for the autumn months, is also available as an iced frappuccino for those who like their stout chilled.

Starbucks says the coffee “brings together savoury toasty malt and chocolaty tastes topped with sweet dark caramel drizzle”.

And it promises customers that, while it tastes like beer, there is no alcohol in the drink.

The seasonal brew has brought a mixed response from those who have tried it so far.

One said it “tastes like a beer but with espresso...not bad” although perhaps not an ideal choice at breakfast time. Others described it as “horrid” and an “icky mix of molasses and almost beer taste”.

Dark barrel latte is being tested only in some Starbucks outlets in Ohio and Florida. - Daily Mail
