Theo Basson, owner of Ormonde Private Cellar, remembers how his “old block”, Nico Basson, planted vineyards long before the Darling-area became known for wine.

Coming up with an innovative name such as Chip Off The

Old Block for a range of single vineyard wines from the farm’s oldest collection, Ormonde is justifiably proud of its high-

quality Single Vineyard range

of Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon

Blanc, Merlot, Shiraz and

Cabernet Sauvignon.

The nose of the Ormonde Sauvignon Blanc explodes with an aroma of gooseberry and ripe figs. On the palate it has lovely green pepper undertones and a creamy texture with massive fruit flavours that leap out of the glass.

At the chocolate and wine tasting on the estate, Ormonde Sauvignon Blanc is paired with a rock salt and caramel chocolate from Tomes, resulting in a savoury taste experience - balanced yet complex, offering hints of the granite rock interior and sea breeze as part of the tasting experience.

The Ormonde Sauvignon Blanc.

Ormonde Sauvignon Blanc pairs exceptionally well with

tuna tartare or sashimi as

the sea salt aromas from the Atlantic Ocean nearby permeate through.

Ormonde’s Chip off the Old Block is available from fine wine stores nationwide.
