MAHLE Behr South Africa has released a cookbook, featuring recipes from their staff members. A novel approach to get their staff members involved in the company's CSI programme, the cookbook exclusively has recipes that are created by staff members of the multinational company. There was a competition element to the cookbook too, with employees standing a chance to win bragging rights of being the best cook in the company. 

"The purpose of the employee cookbook was to have employees share their favourite recipes - the ones they make at home for family and friends." says Jolene van Heerden, Mahle's communications manager. 
"Developing our own branded cookbook has been a fun way to unite our employees and promote employee engagement whilst donating to two worthy charitable causes. It has also been a way to embrace diversity and cultural heritage of our employees."

The children of the company's employees were also roped in to contribute to the cookbook, with illustrations. 

The winning recipe was the corn braai bread by  Lisa Stanley. Here's the recipe, below:

“This recipe starts in the kitchen where friends gather to chat and laugh while the ingredients are 
combined and baked. It has graced our braais and get-togethers for many years and has always been 
a hit, especially on those chilly evenings. The adults love it, the kids love it and I love it because it is so 
easy to make! I hope you love it too!”


1 cup butter, melted
1 cup white sugar
4 eggs
1 can cream-style corn
½ cup grated strong cheddar cheese
½ cup grated cheddar cheese
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup yellow course mealie meal
4 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt

Preheat oven to 150°C, lightly grease a 22 X 33cm baking dish.
In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugar. 
Beat in eggs one at a time. 
Blend in cream,  corn and all cheese.
In a separate bowl, stir together flour, cornmeal, baking powder and salt. Add flour mixture to
corn mixture, stir until smooth. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake in the oven for 1 hour, until a toothpick can be inserted into the centre of the pan and  comes out clean.
