Justine Drake is back in the kitchen and on the small screen, blitzing, blending and basting up a storm in the latest season of Just Cooking in Association with Fresh Living.

So, set that timer, shake out your apron and get ready for your weekly date with the much-loved foodie, whose charm and easy-to-understand manner has made her a firm favourite with South African audiences.

The show will continue in its original instructional cooking programme format, but this season Justine plans to spice things up significantly by taking things out of the studio and inviting some of SA’s best-loved celebrity foodies and personalities to join her.

For starters, you can look forward to learning from the king of the coals himself, Jan Braai; with award-winning food editor and author Dora Sitole being another highlight this season.

Also in the mix are cook-outs shot on location around the country, braai masterclasses, and easy-to-make (and shop for) recipes for everything from Greek moussaka, a Mediterranean seafood hotpot and Middle Eastern lamb chops, to burgers, butter chicken and braai broodjies, and as you’d expect, everything in between.

As editor of Pick n Pay’s Fresh Living magazine, Justine has become an expert at creating delicious, nutritious everyday dishes for the time- and cash-strapped cook; and this continues to be the show’s focus.

Says Justine: “The show works because there are so many women out there in the same position as me. We all face the same daily challenges as working moms, we give the best of ourselves at work and we all want to the best we can for our families.

“Like most working moms, I don’t have hours to shop and prepare the evening meal, nor do I have a limitless budget, so modern, fresh food that’s simple and quick to whip up is the order of the day.”

Just Cooking in association with Fresh Living starts Tuesday 5 September at 20:30 on SABC3 and will comprise 13 episodes. A repeat of the show will be broadcast on Saturdays at 12.00 starting 9 September.
