Winter is here! Finally...

To celebrate the momentous occasion (it was an eight-year-wait after all), Johnnie Walker have launched a new, limited-edition Scotch whisky, inspired by the fearful undead who we last saw invading the seven kingdoms in "Game of Thrones".

Created by whisky specialist George Harper, along with a small team of expert blenders, White Walker is best served directly from the freezer. Utilising temperature-sensitive ink technology, fans will be tickled by an unexpected “Winter is Coming” reveal on the bottle when it is frozen.

In GoT, the white walkers are an ancient race of formerly-human creatures who come from the far north of Westeros. Known for their icy blue eyes and led by the Night King, the undead army are on the march from the Frozen North, bringing with them the long-threatened winter.

This is where we will pick up on Monday, at the ungodly hour of 3am.

The Scotch has notes of caramelised sugar and vanilla, fresh red berries with a touch of orchard fruit. It features single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish – one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries.

Normal spirits freeze at a temperature of about -114 degrees celsius but Johnnie Walker has created an interesting mechanic that allows you to freeze the liquid at home.

The nature of the White Walker spirit is such that there is a thermo-centric mechanic added, that allows you to drop the temperature to about - 1,5 degrees Celsius, which in turn allows you to chill-filter the liquid. This breakthrough technology has resulted in this being the first brand to freeze a whisky with an alcohol by volume percentage of 41.7.

Harper used the Frozen North as his starting point for creating White Walker by Johnnie Walker. “Whiskies from Clynelish have endured long, Scottish winters, not dissimilar to the long periods endured by the Night’s Watch who have ventured north of the wall - so it was the perfect place to strt when creating this unique whisky,” he said.

So, if like the inimitable Tyrion Lannister, you are partial to a drink or .. ten, you may want to pour a White Walker for the fallen. The Night King is coming, you can be sure the body count is going to be epic.
