Everyone loves a bistro that feels like home and Nom Nom in Somerset West is just that.

The eatery is a breath of fresh air. Recently it has been revamped from Benguela On Main, a well-known fine dining restaurant. Today it’s Nom Nom, a chic bistro with sharp modern edges.

Executive chef Sebastian Smith has made a streamlined menu seem very easy to put together, when in fact, on closer inspection, it must have been quite a tricky task. Every dish is simple, but well thought out.

There are six categories on the menu: Brunch, Nibbles, Bread, Light, Hungry and Sweets. These are the best guide to follow but don’t be fooled by the time of day you sit down for a meal - the team at Nom Nom will happily serve you breakfast after sunset if that’s what you’re craving.

Corndog with spicy aioli is a good start. It’s a light but filling nibble.

The pork scratchings are a must have. For only R24, they will keep you munching throughout the meal and the popcorn-like texture is quite clever because you just can’t keep your fingers away from the salty treats. The waitron will happily explain how the chef achieves these light scratchings and it’s a good talking point if you’re there for a first date.

In fact, the menu caters for date night, a family meal or groups of friends wanting to have a tasty night out.

Just ensure that someone at the table orders a Ham Waffle with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. The eggs are cooked to perfection and the homemade sauce is delicious.

The wine bar at Nom Nom should not be overlooked either. There is a sommelier on

hand to take you through the selection.

Nom Nom(cnr Main Road and Coronation Avenue, Somerset West) is open Monday to Saturday 10 am to 8 pm.
