Tomato Bredie

2 large onions, thinly sliced

1 kg stewing mutton

2 cups of water

1 kg ripe tomatoes, liquidised

2 teaspoons tomato paste

Salt to taste

Fresh green chilli

4 Medium potatoes, quatered

Sugar to taste


Braise onions until golden, for 5 – 10 minutes

Add meat and simmer over medium heat for 30 – 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add water, tomatoes, tomato paste, salt and chilli and simmer for 20 minutes.

Add potatoes and cook until tender.

Add the sugar to taste.

Serve with white rice.
