There are many options in Cape Town if you do want a high tea or afternoon tea experience, and the team at the Paparazzi Bar on the ground floor of The Pepper Club in Loop Street have created a simple and quaint afternoon tea menu.

The bar is tucked away around the corner from the main entrance of the hotel and there is a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.

Another advantage of this afternoon tea is that the menu is straightforward and familiar which immediately puts you at ease.

Executive Head Chef Scott Hendrie has selected a range of teas that compliments every sweet and savoury treat on the menu.

He says: “The sandwiches are not smoked salmon, but every tea that is on our menu compliments with any one of the things on here,” as he points to the display of treats for afternoon tea.

Hendrie has kept the tea selection small and that makes it a bit easier for those who just want something quick and tasty to nibble on while they catch up with a friend or a colleague.

The english scones are simple but delicious as are the sandwiches.

There are two sandwiches, chicken mayo and beetroot with cheddar cheese, which won’t win any culinary awards but it’s great for this afternoon tea menu.

The highlight of the menu are the lemon brulee tarts and chocolate sponge with chocolate ganache. Simple, flavourful and bite sized which is all you want for an Afternoon Tea exploration.

The Paparazzi Bar’s Afternoon Tea menu is the perfect place to start getting into the ritual of High Teas which you definitely have to try at least once.

Afternoon Tea at Paparazzi Bar is available daily between 14h00 and 18h00 and costs  R299.00 per stand for two and R150.00 per single stand. Reservations can be made via email to [email protected] or on 021 812 8888.
