Valentine’s Day is upon us and although nobody wants to get carried away by tradition, if you have a significant other in your life, it’s hard to ignore February 14. 

The ultimate prize is to go out to dinner as a treat for both. No matter where you decide to go, you want the evening and the meal to be memorable. The food, the drinks and the ambience must be worth your time, effort and money.

Here are a few options you have in Joburg on Valentines Day.

Central One Restaurant

Treat that very special person in your life to a gourmet night out for two at the sophisticated Central One Restaurant in Johannesburg’s Sandton district.

Central One Restaurant which is situated at Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel is hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner three course set menu for R880 per couple.

“As a restaurant we understand the importance of Valentine’s Day. It is celebration of love and for us; we make it special for the couple (but mostly the ladies). We show her that he thought about every detail for her on this special night. He chose a romantic menu in a fabulous restaurant with great ambience.

“Our staff is attentive yet keeping their distance for their privacy, making her feel like she is the most special person in the world.nWe strive to ensure that ‘every moment matters’. We have an amazing selection of cocktails dubbed the Sinner (alcoholic) and Saints (non-alcoholic).

Guests can even enjoy some of our specialty Gin Infusion drinks”, said Allan Naicker, Food and Drink Manager at Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel.

The three course set menu will allow couples to choose what they would like to have.

For starters, couples can choose from buffalo mozzarella, roasted plum tomato tart grilled asparagus with rocket and walnut pesto or nicoise salad with pan-seared calamari and lime butter emulsion.

For the main course, couples can choose from Norwegian salmon pommes galette, seared bok choy, poached baby beets, champagne lemon beurre blanc or lamb rack with pistachio crust, truffle pommes puree, broad bean ragout, just natural or rustic wild mushroom ravioli with burnt sage butter. 

And for dessert, couples can indulge in some red velvet Swiss roll with white chocolate ganache, rose water chiffon cake and candied rose petals.

Jackson’s Real Food Market 

If you are looking for something healthy, you can head to Jackson’s Real Food Market situated at 300 Bryanston Drive, Sandton or at their second store which is at the newly developed Kyalami Corner shopping centre in Midrand for their Valentine’s Day Healthy Dinner which is R395 per head.

Jackson’s Real Food Market will be having a three course healthy dinner with a romantic view and live music.

“Our views are spectacular. We hosts A1 fresco dining at both venues with live music. Full bars, juice bar, smoothie bar and artisan coffee will be in operation all night and people can browse the market if they like.

“We will do a wine tasting and pairing at only R39 per glass of organic or biodynamic wine. There will also be plenty of wine choices from small boutique wine farms, a cocktail and some craft beer and a cherry beer for the ladies. The main message is lets indulge but on the healthy stuff that is chemical free and nutrient dense”, said Gary Jackson, founder of Jackson Real Food Markets.

For starters, there will be a cured meat selection served with a selection of Carados pesto’s and the artisan’s bakers long fermented sourdough bread.

For the main course people can enjoy some organic salmon pomegranate gastrique and wasabi pea puree and for dessert merlot-poached pears with vanilla and cinnamon will be served.

Jackson said sixty heads per store can be accommodated.
