At vineyards dotted around Cape Town, harvest time is in full swing and the team at Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate in Franschhoek want to share the experience.
The harvest celebration is a time to celebrate the grapes and the people who pick it and turn it into wine. Grand Provence offers a laid back country picnic planned for Saturday February 24.
Starting at 9:30am there will be tractor rides for the little one’s and a cellar tour for their parents who want to go behind the scenes at the wine estate.

You’ll have a choice of either a picnic and sit under an outstretched blanket under the oaks or to chill at the long harvest-style tables.
The classic Harvest Festival picnic includes a bottle of wine per couple and is jam packed with local artisanal charcuterie, cheeses, house-made preserves and pickles, a variety of salads, farm-style bread, and delicious choc chip cookies.
If you want to take your picnic experience up a notch, the Luxury picnic basket has additional oysters fresh from the Grande Provence oyster tank, a bottle of Grande Provence Méthode Cap Classique and a selection of handmade chocolate truffles.
And there’s no shortage of good wine on offer. Last year Grand Provence launched two new Méthode Cap Classiques – a shimmering Brut and an enchanting Rosé.
The new Grande Provence Brut MCC is a beautifully balanced blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with the yeasty character and complexity of freshly baked bread. Crisp acidity and delicate fruit lend ample freshness to the creamy mousse.
The new Grande Provence Brut Rosé MCC, derives its seductive pale salmon hue from a dash of Pinotage added to the blend. The result is a vibrant bubbly bursting with red berry and strawberry flavours and a lively mousse of delicate bubbles.
Tickets for the Grande Provence Harvest Festival including the Harvest Picnic, are available at R750 for adults and R400 for children under 12. The Luxury picnic basket is R1000 per person.
