Known for their pizza’s and pasta’s Col’Cacchio is my go to venue when I’m in a mall in Cape Town and I need to satisfy my lunch cravings in the midst of a shopping trip. At that point in my quest for food, I would easily settle for fast food, a burger and fries or a chicken wing but Col’cacchio is my rest stop when I want to treat myself.
This is why I’m quite happy that their new menu has kept all the favourites that has made the restaurant so popular and just added some fresh toppings to new pizza’s.
The most notable additions to the menu is vegan dishes and pizza’s. A highlight is the new Zucca pizza. It’s vegan cheese, butternut and tomato base and then has roasted butternut and beetroot with rocket, avo, sesame, pumpkin and sunflower seeds.
I ordered the Giardino salad and loved it because it had brocolli and avocado in generous portions.
This is at the heart of the new summer menu, fresh, seasonal veg that is simply prepared, seasoned and served.
My colleague decided to go half and half with her pizza which is always a great idea because if you want to walk out of the restaurant with a takeaway box you get the best of both worlds later at home when you reheat your pizza.
Dessert is a bit of a throw away course at shopping mall eateries but at Col’Cacchio’s there are great options. We shared a meringa (crushed meringue, berries, cream and berry coulis) and it was the perfect end to our meal. Although some of the meringue pieces were a bit of a mouthful and quite chewy, it was a sweet end to the menu.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that as part of their birthday, Col’Cacchio is turning back the clock to their foundation year of 1992, when their pizzas sold for a mere R25.
Every Tuesday in November they will be selling their Margherita pizzas for R25, and Margarita cocktails for just R25.
