After five weeks of some of South Africa’s top personalities showing off their culinary skills during Gateway’s Celeb Chef Showdown, it’s time for the victors to do it all over again so we know who the champion is.

The finalé will take place at Beluga Gateway on Wednesday, November 29, from 6pm.

Pete Goffe-Wood

Everyone expects Goffe-Wood to win this year’s Celeb Chef Showdown.

He’s the most skilled, possibly the most famous and has an unfair advantage over the others. He competed against actress and media personality Jailoshini Naidoo and it wasn’t a surprise when he won. He is a professional chef and has a fanbase that will no doubt vote him the winner. But is that enough to make him the victor?

Ben Voss

The man behind the infamous Beauty Ramapelepele also won his week’s showdown against Krijay Govender at Adega. A surprise addition, he quickly showed that he clearly was the better comic, and cook, on the night and managed to impress the diners, who awarded him the prize. But come Wednesday, will he be able to go the whole way and beat Pete and the rest of the competitors?

Darren Maule and the ECR Breakfast Team

A former finalist, Darren Maule knows what to expect at the finalé. He probably has the biggest advantage of all and he will know how he and his team, Keri Miller and Sky Tshabalala, need to handle themselves, especially when it comes to dealing with the pressure of cooking against four other finalists.

They impressed when they cooked at The Hussar Grill, so it’s going to be interesting to see how they fare at Beluga on Wednesday.

Kyle Deutsch and Dawn Thandeka King

Double winners, the musician and actress had to share the spoils when they were both voted victors at Primi during the second week of the showdown. Because of that, they will take part as a team and they are expected to put their skills to good use and make sure they not only have a winning menu, but the food tastes and looks good.

Let’s hope it won’t be a case of too many cooks and their penchant for spoiling the broth.

Mo Magic

The latest winner, Mo Magic bested actress Renate Stuurman at Cape Town Fish Market and will now have the chance of being the ultimate champion at Beluga on Wednesday. A master illusionist, one wonders if he has the magic touch when it comes to preparing food. He could easily win the crowd over, but let’s hope it all boils down to good food.
