Food apps have made our lives so much easier. Some nights you get home and you’re too tired to cook and there aren’t any restaurants near you; or you might be too tied up with so much work at the office that you cannot find time to go grab some lunch?

This is where food apps come in.

Before the smartphone explosion, people would have to call a restaurant to order food. Now, thanks to advances in mobile technology and the wide development of on-demand food delivery apps, we can quickly and easily place orders via the app and have our food delivered wherever and whenever we wish.

All you have to do is pull out your smartphone and find the best apps for ordering food around your area.

Each food app has many restaurants and cafés and places to choose from. And what makes them so easy to use is is that you can just order food from these joints and eat from the comfort of your own home. Below I have rounded up some of the best food delivery apps that operate around KwaZulu-Natal that will bring deliciousness straight to your doorstep.

Mr D Food

It’s been three months since I have started using Mr D Food and I must say it’s one of the best food apps I have come across. Their delivery process is quick and you are able to trace your order once it has been accepted by the restaurant. I also love that there is a cash payment option, because with most apps you have to pay using your card or by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). There is a wide selection of food outlets you can choose from like John Dory’s, KFC, Wimpy, Reef Café, Barcelos, Kauai, D’urban Burger Co and more.

Their delivery fee is R15, and they deliver every day from 10am to around 10pm.

Mr D Food delivers around Ballito, Berea, Durban North, Glenwood, Hillcrest, Morningside, Umhlanga, Westville and Pietermaritzburg.

UberEATS is a food app that is powered by Uber. It has also partnered with the best local restaurants around town to get people the food they want delivered faster. UberEATS is relatively new in South Africa as it was launched in Johannesburg two years back and only launched around Durban late last year in October. When ordering via this app you only have an option of paying using your card, there is no cash payment option, which is a disadvantage at times. And you are not able to trace your order, you are only shown the time your order will be arriving.

In Durban, the app works in the CBD, Durban North, Umhlanga, Morningside and the Ballito area and the restaurants that have partnered with UberEATS include: RocoMama’s, Afro’s Chicken, op-Up Society, KFC, McDonalds and more.Delivery fee on UberEATS is R10.

OrderIn is another local food delivery service app that is available around town which delivers in places like the Durban Central area, Hillcrest, Overport, Umhlanga, New Germany, Westville, Morningside and Durban North. This food app has been in business for quite some time now as it was launched in South Africa six years ago and it’s also one of the most affordable food apps that allow you to order for pick-up or delivery with a minimal delivery fee of R10. It’s the same as UberEATS; you can only pay using your card. Durban restaurants which can be found on this app include 4320 Shisanyama, Afro’s Chicken, A Healthy Bite Take Away, Arez Café, Greedy Buddah, Jack Salmon and Galito’s, just to mention a few.
