A chemical in broccoli, sulphoraphane, can help treat diabetes, according to a new study.

Researchers at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, gave about 100 type 2 diabetes patients either a high dose of sulphoraphane (equivalent to eating 5kg broccoli) or a placebo pill daily for three months.

Results in the journal Science Translational Medicine showed that those who took the broccoli pill had a 10% greater reduction in blood sugar levels than those taking the placebo.

The researchers plan to get the pill approved as a treatment. - Daily Mail
