DURBAN - The search for a Coronavirus vaccine, which could make the world normal again

is being made into a limited-series drama for

. The drama series will be based on the forthcoming narrative nonfiction book

The First Shot, by journalist Brendan Borrell.

According to entertainment portal ‘Variety’, the limited story will tell the story of global Covid-19 vaccine race, following the firms and individuals involved, associated science, and the challenges playing out around politics, international affairs, access, and safety in the countries with distinct socio-economic strata.

“The book is about the global coronavirus vaccine race, the companies that are risking all to win it, the fascinating and sometimes surprising science that it is based on, and the challenges playing out around access and safety,” said author Borrell.

According to Deadline, McKay will executive produce the series via his banner Hyperobject Industries along with Todd Schulman. The proposed project falls under McKay's overall deal at HBO, which he signed last year.

Researchers around the world are racing to develop a vaccine against Covid-19, with

more than 140 candidate vaccines now tracked

by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Vaccines normally require years of testing and additional time to produce at scale, but scientists are hoping to develop a coronavirus vaccine within 12 to 18 months.

According to Moderna Inc., the company which is leading the race to develop the vaccine says it is on track to deliver about 500 million doses a year, and possibly up to one billion doses a year, beginning 2021.
