We have to ensure we give our bodies extra support to carry on its natural detoxification processes by having a balanced, healthy diet and living a healthy lifestyle.

According to Megan Lee, a registered dietitian from the Health and Stroke Foundation, this is how you can do it:

* Drink lots of clean water to avoid dehydration, aiming for eight glasses per day or more if it's a really hot day or when exercising.

* Eat a diet rich in dietary fibre from fruit, vegetables, legumes and whole grains to assist regular elimination of toxins through your stools.

* Engage in regular physical activity, aiming for 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity each week such as brisk walking, jogging or swimming.

* Minimize toxin exposure. Keep toxin exposure to a minimum; this includes not smoking and avoiding second-hand smoke. If choosing to drink alcohol then do so in moderation.

* Avoid excessive consumption of coffee or other stimulants. Although coffee has great health benefits too, just like anything when consumed too much it may cause an increase in stress hormones and poor sleep.

* Enjoy a balanced diet plentiful in fruit, vegetables and other fresh foods yet limited in processed food that is high in sugar, salt and "bad" saturated and trans fats, which often promote inflammation.
