Heavenly Spa, on the 19th floor of the Westin Cape Town hotel at the Foreshore, certainly lives up to its name.

Whether you are in need of some alone time, a relaxing afternoon with friends or a couples massage there is something on offer for everyone at this luxurious spa.

I was invited for a massage and had no idea what to expect because I never had a spa treatment.

I could never have imagined what good a professional massage could do for the mind and body. Still, for someone like myself, who constantly has a million thoughts going through my mind, how was I going to switch off?

Easy. I stepped into the spa, and the tranquil setting and the relaxing spa music playing softly in the background was enough to shut me up. And I was still at the reception desk.

I was booked for a deep release massage.

The 60-minute session, which costs R740, is a tissue massage designed to release muscle tension.

Essential oils that aids circulation, are used to relieve body tension.

After changing into a comfortable robe and slippers, I was shown to my room by one of the friendly therapists.

The soothing music echoing throughout the spa makes it easy for even the most anxious person to relax.

My treatment included a head, neck, back leg and foot massage.

Guests can decide on the level of pressure they want from light, medium to a deep tissue massage.

My therapist started with my back, and I could feel the tension easing in different parts of my body with each stroke.

Within minutes my mind and body felt completely relaxed as she worked her way down my legs to my feet.

My arms and hands, right down to my fingers, was next, followed by my neck and a very relaxing head massage.

Near the end of my session, a warm towel was placed on my forehead, and I was left to sink deeper into my euphoric state of relaxation.

The sound of a tiny hand-held bell marked the end of the session. I couldn’t believe it was over already.

I also couldn’t believe how refreshed and energised I felt.

In addition to 15 treatment rooms, which includes a couples treatment room, guests can enjoy further relaxation and stimulation in the hot tub and pool or in the sauna, with breathtaking views of the city.

The range of treatments to choose from include a 90-minute African wood massage, a hot stone massage and even a treatment for pregnant moms.
